February last year. It was the end of a surreal summer. We drove from west to east, after a jaunt through South Australia. We were three ladies representing three countries, but took pleasure in Australian things. We ate fish and chips washed down with ginger beer, we chatted with koalas and blasted The Jezebels with the windows rolled down.

Cuba. Ohhh, Cuba. The place that found me. A place I was desperately needing but didn’t realise I needed until I’d lost all sense of direction and found myself wandering among crumbling Habana Vieja façade's, many a stray cat and the passing fumes of 1950’s Chevrolets.

One week on and the devastation is still as real as ever. Despite arriving pre-storm with much lighter intentions to photograph the Florida panhandle, I took the opportunity post evacuation to return and document the new landscape of this beautiful part of the world. Never before have I witnessed first hand the force of a category 4 hurricane.
